Casuals Questions
With us not having a Grand Prix this weekend, I went on Instagram (@fangirlformula) to ask my followers, whether they are true fan of the sport or just someone in my life who has 0 knowledge other than when I rant, to submit their questions they had about Formula One. There was a wide variety of questions submitted and I have a wide variety of answers to provide.
Class is now in session. Let’s begin.
How did F1 originally start?
For those of you who know me, you know my first love is history, so this is an amazing question to start us off. After the end of WWII in 1946, the then governing body of motoring racing wanted to go about rebuilding the sport. Over the next few years, there was the emergence of the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) as a governing body and in 1950 they held their first Formula One championship season. Though there have been many changes to what a Formula One season may look like since then, this year the sport is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary.
Why is it called Formula One? What is the Formula?
The name comes from the combination of rules and regulations the teams must follow in creating their car and the on track rules as well, hence, a set formula. The one comes from it being the highest level of motor racing with there being a Formula 2 and Formula 3, with different lesser rules and regulations.
What is the Super Bowl equivalent in F1?
Throughout the F1 season, teams and drivers are competing for 2 separate championships. There is the World Drivers Championship that is awarded to the driver with the most points in comparison to the other drivers. The other competition happening throughout the season is the World Constructors Championship which is awarded to the team who has both of their cars consistently finish high within the points scoring positions, which in F1 is P1 - P10. So, there is no singular event but rather huge implications for each weekend and winners for either championship could potentially be crowned before the end of the season.
How did you find F1?
Another fantastic question! My dad would watch races sporadically throughout the years but I never really paid attention to it. Then, it was my 3rd year in college and there was a replay of a race on before my Tottenham Hotspurs game (COYS) and so I sat and actually watched. Ever since then I have given a lot of time and emotional energy to this sport.
Are girls allowed?
Within the last few years they have introduced F1 Academy which is a series of teams either backed by F1 teams or other backers with female drivers. Which they don’t race every GP weekend, these ladies are wicked talented and F1 Academy is an amazing addition to the sport.
Who is the best looking driver?
This is very dependent on personal preference. There are a million stan accounts on every social media platform with a wide range of fan energy. But the girlies and a lot of general media outlets and companies have all seemed to deem Mr. Charles Leclerc the prettiest man in the sport.
Why is Lando so cutie?
I am assuming it’s genetics and lifestyle. If someone from Lando’s camp happens to see this, please feel free to provide more information.
Repair all the teammates on the grid with new teams for max chaos scenario.
