Bahrain GP Recap

Pre weekend thoughts:

  • My brother better not last minute decide to go to any of the sessions this weekend

Free Practices

There were very few things that I saw during the 3 free practice sessions this weekends that I thought were notable.

The first thin I was wanted to discuss was even though we are only on our 4th race weekend of the year, the amount of sass and unfiltered team radios is unbelievable. Truly, so many that have come from our drivers already could really last us the rest of the season. Maybe, they haven’t always shown us all of them or it’s that I like to block out most of the team radios because 99% of the time they make me want to throw something at my screen, but across so many teams already the drivers are really testing their engineers patience with the sass they giving them.

Another topic of conversation from our brilliant commentary team was discussing the possible career paths for Max after he decided to move on from F1. They said that he could be a driver for hire for team of the teams to help their development and I had to laugh out loud. Mainly because I know that all of the teams on the grid would drop BANDS to have him test out their car. He would make it so there were 20 rocketships on the grid. Which you will never hear me complain about.

Qualifying

I had the idea of just sharing my live qualifying thoughts and obviously I still will but I am using this time to rant about something that made me angry this weekend.

The decision to wait until Q3 to announce that Nico had a lap time deleted from Q1 which would’ve allowed Alex to move into Q2 was absolutely ridiculous. They can hold reserve the right to review and delete lap times but if they are going to do that and enforce the decision then they need to be able to do so between Q1 & Q2. They waited too long and it effected Alex’s ability to move forward in qualifying and potentially get a better starting position. Which based on what Fred Vassuer said, qualifying this season is going to be everything because of the level competitiveness of the cars on the grid.

One of my suggestions to the current drivers on the grid is to host a movie night. Maybe, get together on an off race weekend or even the Thursday night before we start the sessions on Friday, whatever or wherever it ends up being doesn’t matter. What does matter is that they watch a movie like Stick It (2006). They need some inspiration for some slight rebellion to the FIA, the fines and the late penalties throughout the weekend are ridiculous.

Okay, rant over.

Here were my thoughts during qualifying, where I was pleasantly surprised by Alpine and Yuki was showing up:

  • Alpine? What are you doing here specifically jack

  • Red Bull one lap wonders (proud of yuki)

  • Lewis where did that come from (Q1)

  • Immediately triggered by the red flag (I am not over last weeks Free practices)

  • Is it me or is this all too quiet (aka boring) like blissfully uneventful but still some spice would be nice

  • Can not emphasize enough like alpine where did this come from

  • Yuki out pacing max??

Post qualifying Mercedes drivers were handed one place grid penalties which moved Charles onto the front row. To me this is the break that Ferrari needs heading into Sunday. Hopefully, they can maximize this and some solid points for the team.

Race

My live observations, notes, and thoughts of the race

I have to remember to breathe during starts

George don’t you dare run him off

So Lando can get a solid start from everywhere else on the track but front row? got it.

Out of position?? please. AHEAD OF THE BOX??! I WILL LOSE IT

Grip on the medium not good? this is not going to go well if true

a 5 second penalty? thank goodness

On record, the worst spot for Ferrari to be in on a Sunday is one where they are relying on strategy

Of course they lost alot of track position.

I seriously can not emphasize how shocked I am to see Pierre so high still

Kimi that is insane to go after Max like that, about to give Bono an attack

Give us back the fastest lap point

the downfall of the redbull pitstop is concerning

omg a safety car? I missed you

But wait why are we under safety car like? Did we just miss seeing the SC??? I need answers

This race has me all over the board - I need like a beta blocker or something

Safety car restarts are too much for me

I can’t. passing off the track??

the C1 better watch it’s back everyone on the track is plotting revenge

seeing the barilla logos everywhere I LOVE WHEN BRANDS LIKE BARILLA BECOME SPONSORS IN SPORTS THE POSSIBILITIES FOR ACTIVATIONS ARE ENDLESS ugh

now why would they jinx the possibility of a retirement

at least they are apologizing for not giving us our intervals

see a car retirement. told you they jinxed it. commentators should know better than to say anything like they when there are so many laps left. unbelievable

the remember to use the drink was so nice to remind him. The immediate sass after? extremely on brand.

good clean racing is truly the way to my heart

Pierre driving with a frustrated Max behind him? good luck.

Ollie is driving incredibly

Georges transponder causing ripple DRS issues is really his saving grace right now and thats crazy

omg please do not do anything crazy in this last lap my meds don’t cover this

I just want to scream RUN at my screen

Oscar was so unbothered that entire race

While Lewis Hamilton was named driver of the day but my personal winner should have been Ollie Bearman. Starting the race in 20th and finishing within the points as a rookie is superb racing. I am going to need the fans across the sport to really get it together.
